Who
are the instructors?
Stephen Martinez, IV
Degree
"My first experience of Martial Arts was at the age of 9
when I began to train in Judo, winning Silver and then Gold in
consecutive London Open Championships. Unfortunately the class
closed down and I was unable to find another Art that suited me.
I tried Karate, but the teachers refused to explain any of the
movements and just asked me to copy them blindly without understanding
their purpose. I moved on to Boxing but again could not get on
with the class.
In 1988, I was lucky enough to find Norwood Taekwon-do and Mr
George Daley who in 3 years would guide me to my black belt. Since
then I have attained the rank of 4th Degree International Instructor
with the ITF. I have trained with General Choi Hong Hi, the Founder
of Taekwon-do, and Rhee Ki Ha - the world's greatest living Martial
Artist and the first man ever to be promoted to the rank of Grandmaster.
In accordance with the principals of Taekwon-do, I have striven
never to be contented with what I have in terms of skills. To
this end I have become a master craftsman in joinery, a professional
standard musician and an IT systems engineer recognised by Microsoft.
I hope to instill in my students the same thirst for knowledge
that has driven me and to encourage them to dare to be great.
I have, to date, produced 8 black belt students of whom I am immensely
proud."

Richard Walford, II Degree
I started Tae Kwon-do
at the age of 18, at Redhill with Mr Stephen Martinez. I knew
this would be the martial art for me after my first lesson,
and was keen to make this a part of my life. I had previsouly
tried a few other martial arts, but they were not for me.
I have now been training for 17 years and during
this time I have been fortunate enough to meet General Choi Hong
Hi and take all my gradings (with one exception) in front of Grand
Master Rhee Ki Ha.
As a member of our school, I have participated
in many competitions and have a showcase of 13 trophies - my most
memorable one being my first tournemont at the Scottish Championships
and winning the gold medal.
I am a 'C Class Instructor', and I am extremely
proud to have Mr Martinez as my instructor. Over the years, he
has shown me the way and passed on his knowledge, which in turn,
I can pass on to others.
I'm currently looking to achive my 3rd Degree
Black Belt, promote the art of Tae Kwon-do and live life to the
full.
